The Church and Christ

The church at Corinth was a born again, spirit filled church as evidenced by the letter of  Paul to Corinthians.  The church at Ephesus was also a born again, spirit filled church according to Acts chapter nineteen where Paul lays hands on the elders and they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit evidenced by utterance in tongues.  Romans eight talks about groaning in the spirit which cannot be uttered.  There is good reason to believe, therefore, that all the letters in the new testament were to people who had received the Spirit according to Acts chapter two with the sign of tongues.  If that is true, then when one tries to live out the letters of the new testament without having dealt with the sin nature and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you have a church much like the one Christ dealt with in the gospels.  That church was legalistic, self-righteous, judgmental, and critical of the sinner.   That church learned how to hide the truth of their own shortcomings and condemned people who did not keep the rules.  It was that church that crucified Christ.  This is not to say that all born again, spirit filled Christians have their act together, but it is to say that holiness is a grace and a gift and a washing in the blood of Christ.  It is only when someone has truly repented and knows the plague of his own heart that one learns the true meaning of compassion for the sinner and one becomes free of judgment and condemnation.  You must be born again.  Period.
