Semantics and Truth

When we speak of semantics, we talk of ways to define what we do to justify an approach that enables us to do what we want to do that when defined in another way would not justify what we do.  When we speak of truth, we mean what in reality actually is regardless of how we define it.  In business there is this balance to be had between semantics and truth.   If something in business is more cost effective defined in one way as opposed to another that is usually the road taken.  However, in the science field one has to be aware that the truth of what we do affects human lives and though something may be justified semantically, the truth is, that it might compromise the validity of the results obtained and endanger life.  The analyst must always be aware of the tension between semantics and truth and when the truth is in danger of being compromised by semantics, the truth must win out.  Telling the truth can be very difficult and costly at times, but if we are people of integrity then the truth will prevail and we can live with a clear conscience.
