Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us
unto Christ, that we may be justified by faith.  But
after that faith is come, we are no longer under a
 schoolmaster.
Gal3:24-25

Until we are born again, we live under the law.  With the law is judgment, guilt, condemnation, anxiety, and fear.  For instance when reading the psalms of David one is struck by how often David is under the judgment of the law.  He is often moaning and groaning, repenting and crying out for God's mercy.  Rather than one and done it is a continual rollacoaster ride with God.  For the preacher the law functions to bring people to repentance, but once the person is saved by grace through faith, the Christian life should not consist of constant repentance, but a life of faith and being led of the Spirit.  If Christ does not make us free, if we do not live in victory without fear of punishment when we make a mistake, then we are not living new testament Christianity.  We are still living under the law.  If we are being led of the Spirit then the fruit of that experience is love, joy, and peace and all the rest of the fruit of the Spirit.  If we make a mistake, we simply recognize the mistake and move on.  We do not wallow in self pity or condemnation or fear or judgment.  With the law it is one and done.  All of the law is done away in Christ.  He is our emancipator and our liberator.  He came to free us from the slavery of sin and the burden of the law.  The life of the Christian shifts from learning rules and regulations to yielding to the Spirit and walking by faith.  It is a life driven by an internal witness not an external code of conduct.  The law is written on our hearts and we act in love.  Yielding to the Spirit and living by the hearing of faith means that we learn how to be generous in our giving, knowing when to leave when God is closing a door and knowing when to walk through a door when God opens one.  It is learning how to be still in order to hear the still small voice of God.  As we enter into the inner chambers of the life of God through silence and obedience, our lives becoming a living testimony to the goodness of God and the victory of Christ's crucifixion.  Learn to live by faith and the leading of the Holy Spirit and you will always walk in victory.

amen
