Not What You Would Expect

The person who wrote most of the new testament letters was a mass murderer.  The person Christ first appears to when he rose from the dead was a whore.  The first person to evangelize a town for Christ committed adultery with four different men.  The son who stays home and tries to do everything right gets nothing.  The son who lives like the devil wasting his money with riotous living gets a robe, sandals, a ring, a fatted calf, and a big party.  When Jesus preaches in church the people want to throw him off the brow of a hill and kill him.  When he preaches to the unschooled, they want to make him king.  Christ only argues with the law abiding clergy but forgives the woman caught in adultery.  It is the church which crucifies Christ not the sinner.  Not what you would expect from the bible and the Son of God.  It was the most difficult thing for Christ not to sin.  He knows first hand that we will fail.  Yet it is only in failing that we can experience his mercy and love which invokes in us a deep love for him.  When you get real with Christ, Christ will become real to you.  That is the message of  Christ.  Wake up! Most of the church is asleep, living in a dream.  He came for sinners like you and me.  Then he can make us righteous like him.  But first we must know who and what we are and what we need.  When we do, Christ will give it to us.  That is the message of the gospel.  Not what you would expect.

Amen
