Have You come to “When” Yet?

What God hath cleansed, thou call not thou common
Acts10:15

God moved Peter to do something that in the natural he did not want to do.  Peter learned that God is no respecter of persons as he goes to Cornelius's house and brings with him the baptism of the Holy Ghost to a non-Jew.  Peter had to yield to the Spirit in spite of his own predilections to the contrary.  For an orthodox Jew there is no dealing with the gentile.  Peter perceives the will of God as being only positive for the chosen ones and not for the gentile.  As a result he disputes with God and God has to straighten him out telling him what he has cleansed, thou call not thou common.  So the question is, “have you come to “when” yet?  Have you come to the place where God so has his way with you that 'when' naturally you want to go one way, God impels you to go in another way?  When you want to turn left but God tells you to turn right?  For me this is an almost common occurrence.  Either God telling me to give 'when' naturally I don”t want to give or God telling me to withhold 'when' naturally I want to give or telling me to stay home 'when' I want to go out or go 'when' I would prefer to stay.  This in part is what it means to be led of the Spirit.  This in part is the purpose of being Spirit filled.  This in part is what it means to be obedient to God.

When you come to 'when' you are useful to God.  When you are so led of the Spirit that being spiritually led is more natural than being naturally led, God's will can be performed and his purposes fulfilled.  Like Peter we only learn obedience with experience.  If we are not self-willed, we will humble ourselves regardless of how we appear to others, like Peter to his Jewish friends, and do what God wants us to do.  But if we dispute with God, giving him our good reasons not to do what the Spirit is leading us to do, God's will will not be done nor shall we grow spiritually.  Peter still had a choice.  He could stay within Jewish tradition or he could break with tradition to accomplish God's purpose for Cornelius and the gentile community.  Peter like Paul had to die to his Jewish back round to usher in a new theology, salvation by faith and not by the Mosaic Law.  Peter had to die to self, die to his upbringing, die to his own intellectualism to bring the good news to the gentile.

So the question remains, “have you come to 'when' yet?  If not, why not?  Do you need to re-access your history with the Spirit and repent for being self-willed and naturally motivated contrary to God's promptings of the Spirit?  Unless you are willing to humble yourself and I will say quite candidly, God wants to humble us, then not only will you stagnate spiritually, but God's will and purpose will be left to someone else or more sadly, be left undone.  To pray for the mind of Christ means that when we know what Christ's mind is, we will do it and we can only do it if we yield to the Holy Spirit.  At all costs be obedient to God.
