The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak
Mt26:41
Did you ever wonder why Elijah could destroy two hundred fifty false
prophets, raise a dead boy, pray that it would not rain and it did not
rain for three and a half years but ran from Jezebel, the king’s
wife? When you are not in the Spirit, when you are stuck in the
natural you are subject to all the weaknesses of the flesh. When
Elijah was led of the Spirit of God, his faith was strong and his power
was great. When he was just an ordinary person he was fearful for
his life. As Christians we are not ordinary people. We are
free from sin, should have received the gift of the Holy Spirit, and
should be able to live by faith. If we do not rise above our
elemental spirit and get into the Spirit, we will operate on the wrong
level and live defeated lives.
Jesus in Gesthemene experienced this struggle between remaining in the flesh and getting in the Spirit. If he stayed in the flesh he would not have fulfilled the will of God. If we do not get into the Spirit we, too, will not perform the will of God. It is of paramount importance that we operate on the spiritual level and not on the natural level. How do we get there? The flesh profits nothing. The Spirit gives life. My words are Spirit and they are life. (Jn6:63) Learn the word of God. Confess the word of God. Speak the word of God. Speak only words that are consistent with the word of God, words that are positive, and that are life giving. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Learn songs of praise and worship. Make music unto the Lord. Leave your cares and worries behind and get in the Spirit. Praise the Lord. Praise him in the morning, praise in the evening, and praise him at noon. Praise brings the Spirit. Music brings the Spirit. The word brings the Spirit. Do not dwell on the negative. Do not dwell in the natural. Do not dwell on your problems. Make it a habit to start your day on the right foot. If when you are in bed your Spirit leads you to pray, to sing, to praise, to worship God, even before you get out of bed, you are on the right track. You are disciplining yourself to get out from under the yoke of bondage, the yoke of fear, the yoke of anxiety, the yoke of boredom and depression. Recognize where you are and act accordingly. When you develop good habits, they become the avenue to Spiritual freedom. The Spiritual becomes natural and you live your life in the Spirit and in so doing, are living by faith and performing the will of God. Even Jesus had to deal with the flesh. Live in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit and you will live on the right plane and make good choices all the days of your life and you will live in the house of the Lord forever.
