When Jesus therefore saw his mother, The
difference between the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke with
John’s gospel is John received a special gift at the cross.
He received the mother of Jesus and insight into the psychology and
personality of Christ. As anointed as the synoptic gospels are,
there is something special about John’s gospel and what is
special about it, is the influence of Mary on John. ‘Mary
pondered all these things in her heart’ and was able to convey
them to John which changed the way he presented the Messiah to the
world.
If you want a special gift from God, something that will make you different from your contemporaries, something that will profoundly influence the heart and soul of the people you come in contact with, then, come to the cross. Meditate on the passion of Christ. Die to self and fling yourself over to God, without care for life or reputation or safety, and you will find your insight and preaching and depth will drastically alter and you will receive a gift that is wholly suited to your nature and personality. John and Mary risked their lives to be with Jesus in his passion and because of this sacrifice for the cross, were blessed individually and corporately and the blessing has come down through the church from generation to generation. “Woman, behold thy son.” and to his disciple “behold thy Mother.” These words spoken at the cross with such power and destiny would not have impacted the world had they not been there. What impact will Jesus have on you and the world, unless you come to the cross and hear him speak to you and give you a gift so special and so unique that all will be blessed because you risked everything to come to the cross? What loss will the world and you lose if you don’t? I ask you. Will you come to the cross? It will transform your life. It may not be as significant as John and Mary, but it may be that significant to you personally. Don’t lose out! Come to the Cross. Amen |
