The Lilies of the Field

If God so clothe the lilies of the field
Which today is, and tomorrow is cast into
The oven, shall he not much more clothe you,
O ye of little faith?
Mt6:30

When I look at the stars in the sky and what a ministration they exert: The boundless beauty, the breath of God, the glitter in the night and to think that they just are.  They do not do anything but when lovers look at the stars it ministers the depth and breadth and length of God and romance is born.

When I consider the lilies of the field, how they clothe the grass and give it beauty and majesty, I stand in awe.  What dignity and royalty they minister.  Yet the lilies just are.  They do not sow or reap.  They do not toil or spin and yet God clothes the grass with them.  The lilies are the flower of the resurrection.  The lily represents the power of God to overcome death and sickness and poverty and all lack.  They represent my Savior and my Lord.  Yet the lilies just are.  They do not sow or reap.  The do not toil or spin.  Yet the lily is a flower of God.

When I think of stars and lilies and God’s generosity and artistry, I stand amazed and in awe.  And I want to say to God: “Clothe me like the lilies” Let the anointing that dwells in me exert such a ministration that people will know that they are in the presence of God; that people will feel the conviction of sin and repent; that people will be healed and delivered and set free.  Let my faith arise that God may clothe me as the stars in the sky and the lilies of the field and God, not me, will get all the glory.  For I will not have preached, nor laid hands on the sick, nor commanded the demons to depart, yet God will do it through the power of the Holy Spirit making Jesus present and real at home, at school, at work, on the bus, or at church or wherever I am.  Lord, ‘make me like stars and lilies’.

The Lord tells us to consider the lilies: to free myself from worry and doubt and self consciousness and just believe and trust in him.  God grant me the grace to increase my faith to accept the fact that I do not need to work for my salvation or for the salvation of others but wholly give myself to thee.  Then Christ will shine like the stars and bloom like the lily and I will be at peace and have joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Amen
