The Word Whispers Out from the womb a child is born Destined to save a world forlorn In stillness and peace on a starry night The shepherds did behold a marvelous sight In a manger was he, no room in the Inn From the heights to the depths, the poor to win The wise men did come with their gifts to give To pay homage to the baby who in humility lives For thirty years no record of wonders to perform At twelve in the temple his wisdom to inform Not until the baptism of John when the Spirit came Did the whisper erupt into song and fame The Word Sings Healing the sick and raising the dead Bringing salvation to the world by the Father led To the lowly and meek he was hope for their plight To the haughty and proud he was a terrible sight He taught with authority and in parables gave The truth of the kingdom, the sinner to save Not until Calvary when on a cross he hung Did grievous sorrow replace the song that he sung The Word Dies His temptations were great, sweating drops of blood The devil came attacking with a vengeance, like a flood Scourged and beaten and with a crown of thorns To the cross he did go, as his friends did mourn On his body the sin and the plight of the world All the fury and pain of darkness unfurled He died a sinner's death once and for all Exchanging his love for the lost, overcoming the Fall The Word Triumphant But on the third day, the power to rise Conquering death and the grave, and the mournful cries He is alive and he lives in those who believe Jesus Christ is Lord, the one to receive The Word triumphant, who could conceive The love of the Father, a world to retrieve amen |
