Lawlessness Without Obedience
05/23/2013
George Poulo

We have been considering life without law.  But what about the person, who living without law, chooses to disobey the Spirit of God?  What is God's answer to him?

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened
and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers
of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God,
and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away,
to renew them again unto repentance, seeing they crucify
unto themselves the Son of God afresh and put him to open shame.
Heb6:4-6

For the person who has entered into the freedom of Christ, those who are born again, partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God, if they shall fall away, there is no longer any recourse to repentance.  There is no recourse to the law because they are no longer under the law and God will not deter them from living a carnal life.

Not every one that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven but he that doeth the will of my Father which
is in heaven.  Many will say unto me have we not prophesied in thy
name? And in thy name hast cast out devils?  And in thy name have
done many wonderful works?  Then will I profess unto them I never
knew you.  Depart from me ye that work iniquity.
Mat7:21-23

This scripture coincides with St. Paul telling the Corinthian church that faith, prophesy, and working of miracles is nothing without love.  For the person who has been enlightened and tasted the good things of God, if he chooses not to obey the Spirit, if he chooses to feed his lust, if he chooses to remain greedy, if he chooses to usurp the leading of the Spirit in whatever way the Spirit is directing him, for that person, there will be judgment on the last day.  He may continue to have a healing ministry, write many beautiful teachings, reap a financial harvest, and do marvelous things, God will not stop him, but that person is doomed to perdition.  That person is hindering other Christians from living a truly spiritual life and will suffer the consequences for it for all eternity.  Only the person who loves the way Paul tells us to love will enter the kingdom of heaven.  For those who have been given much, much is required.  Those given less may truly gain more in the end.

James tells us faith without works is dead being alone.  Faith without love is dead too.  Be people of faith but that is not enough. Be people of hope but that still is not enough.  Be people of love and walk in the Spirit and crucify the flesh and you will do the will of the Father.  That alone will please God and people will know that you walk humbly with God and great will be your reward in heaven.

Amen
