Sin came into the world through the transgression of Adam and Eve.  With sin came sickness and death.  We could paraphrase St. Paul and say “The strength of sin, sickness, and death is the law.”  Now law is a burden in scripture.  Through law is the knowledge of sin.  If we can remove the burden of the law, we can remove sickness and the sting of death.  When you meet Christians who walk in the Spirit and are not under the condemnation of the law, you meet people who will tell you how seldom they get sick.  But people who live under the burden of the law are subject to all kinds of sickness and disease.  If you live under the law, when you sin, it brings about sickness and ultimately death.

            Jesus says his burden is easy.  It is easy because he came to free us from the law: sin, sickness, and death.  When we learn to walk in the Spirit we become subject to less and less sickness.  If we truly want people free, we will pray for them to be delivered from the bondage of the law: sin, sickness, judgment, condemnation, control, and the like.  For example, many people with auto immune diseases live with self hatred, self judgment, and self condemnation and usually transfer those feelings and thoughts to others.  People who live in fear may experience asthma, heart murmurs, acid reflux, and allergies.  People who pick up drugs and alcohol try to medicate themselves due to a lack of love from parents or siblings.  Matthew 23:23 states that “the weightier matters of the law are faith, mercy, and judgment”  In Luke it is “Judgment and the love of God.”  Fear is the absence of faith.  Lack of love is the absence of mercy and so is judgment a lack of  love.  All these illnesses are a direct result of being under law.  Free yourself from the law and sickness will be less frequent and healing more evident.
