I had a very interesting weekend. My coworker was sick most of the week and on Friday the air conditioning was out. The air was very stale and by the end of the day I had lost my voice and was getting a sore throat. Well without any medicine, though I gargled twice, I ended up with a 24 hour cold, runny nose and all. By Sunday morning I was in good health and I don't even remember offering up a prayer on my behalf. Reflecting on the experience all I can say is I didn't give any thought to my illness. I just didn't give the devil any power. Psalm 112:7 talks about not taking in an evil report. Well that can go with anything the devil throws at you. Through faith we can remain calm and consistent and not get in a frenzy when something occurs that is not true to God's love for us. If we learn how to consider the ravens and the lilies and know how to quiet the soul, God can truly work miracles with no effort on our part but a lot of grace on His part. In the world when things don't go our way we respond in a knee jerk fashion with fear and a battery of prayers that might just indicate a lack of faith rather than real faith. Spend time cultivating silence and when the devil rears his ugly head, don't give him power. Amen |
