A Prerequisite for Answered Prayer

Then the blind and the lame came to him
in the temple and He healed them
 Matt 21:14

In this particular passage Jesus has just emptied the temple of the moneychangers who have made the house of God a den of iniquity.  We see a similar thing occur when He puts out the wailers and heals Jairus's daughter.  It seems evident from these instances that healing occurred when the conditions were right for it to occur.  Now make it personal.  St. Paul says our bodies are temples.  If that is so, are our bodies free of spirits that would be an obstacle to getting our prayers answered?  If we are praying for a financial breakthrough, are our bodies free of greed and avarice?  If we are praying for a healing of our bodies, are our bodies free of a spirit of unforgiveness or hatred, or anger?  Jesus did no works in his own city because of a spirit of unbelief.  What may hinder God moving in our life might just be a spirit that needs to be cast out like Jesus did at the temple and with the little girl.  If God is not responding in answer to your prayer in the way you want, examine your inner life and see if there is something there that needs to be removed.  Maybe then God will respond in keeping with his nature and his love for you.

Amen
