Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever Hb 13:8 Is it a contradiction to say that people can change the mind of God? The answer is no. People change. Facts change. But the Truth never changes. God could give King Saul the opportunity to do what was right, obey his word, and King Saul could have a choice either to obey or disobey. It is in keeping with the mercy of God to allow King Saul to do the right thing but since he chose to disobey the word of the Lord, it is consistent with the righteousness of God to take the kingdom away from Saul and give it to David. What causes God to withdraw the blessing is the rebellion and stubbornness of Saul, not the vicissitude of God. What changed were the facts not the Truth. The presumption with respect to God is that he is loving, kind, and merciful. When the people of Nineveh lined themselves up with the word of God through prayer and fasting, God is well within his rights as a changeless God to show mercy to those people through the preaching of Jonah. Because the facts changed, the people changed and prayed and fasted, God could alter his judgment to the Ninevites. When an anointed man or woman of God violates the principles by which God operates, because the person changed and the facts changed, the Truth remains the same and God can withdraw the blessing without contradicting the word or the Truth. Similarly when a child of God operates in keeping with the principles of God, God is well within his rights to alter his judgment because the child of God changed and the facts changed, but God is still the same yesterday, today, and forever. One changes the mind of God by changing oneself either for the better or the worse. When the facts change, God's judgment can change consistent with a changeless God. Food for thought. Amen |
