Summing It Up

The Gospel

Jesus had a large following.  He spoke about the kingdom of God, life after death, living a holy life, the consequences for not following him, the cost of discipleship, and heaven and hell.  He did many marvelous things.  He fed thousands with a few loaves and some fish. He walked on water.  He healed people who were sick.  He raised the dead.  He was transfigured.  Because of his love for us and his obedience to the Father, he allowed himself to be crucified on a cross and shed his blood for our sin.  He rose from the dead and appeared on earth for forty days after his death before he ascended into heaven.  He sent the Holy Spirit on Pentecost fifty days after his resurrection.

The Situation

When hearing the gospel we become aware of our human condition.  We recognize we are far from God.  We don't hear his voice or have a relationship with him.  We are in bondage to some form of sin.  We don't know our destiny, whether will it be life with God or darkness.  The words of scripture bring us to a place of choice.

Weighing the Options

Either we ask Jesus to save us or we ignore the message.  We must choose Christ over what others may think.  We may have to change our lifestyle exchanging worldly pleasure for God.  We must choose between the promises of Christ and what the world offers.  We have to decide whether we will make a complete commitment to Jesus.  We must recognize that staying on a worldly path will only bring destruction not peace.  We must decide if the gospel is true.

Overcoming Doubt

We must decide if God really does things in the world, if there is a God, or does he stand aloof?  Does God exist?  Does he express himself through Jesus?  Can I experience God in such a way that I know he loves me and cares about me?  Is there something about Jesus that is different from all other religions and philosophies?  Is there really a hell?  Are the consequences for not becoming a believer true?  Do I want to take the chance of remaining non committed or do I want to take a leap of faith?

Truth or Fiction?
You decide!
