When Eve was confronted by the devil who contradicted the word of God, Eve had a naked choice to make. She could either believe God or follow the logic of the devil. King Saul was told not to take any spoils from his conquest. Instead of doing what God had told him, he decided to follow the will of the people and he did not follow the will of God. When David took a census, instead of believing that God would keep him safe regardless of the logic of numbers, he chose to take a census and did not believe God. The consequences for not following God, for not acting in faith even when contrary to logic are dramatic. For Adam and Eve, death entered the world and there relationship with God was severed. For King Saul he lost his anointing and his kingship. For David many of his people died because of his transgression. Not living by faith has great consequences. When I see people in the church who are born again, spirit-filled, well schooled in scripture, living a long time in the faith suffering from sickness, poverty, and lack I can only conclude that somewhere a long the line they did not act in faith, but because of peer pressure, fear, or human logic made the wrong choice and followed there own understanding rather than the will of God. The righteous find life through faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Abraham became a friend of God because of his faith. His faith believed in God regardless of the logic of the circumstances and facts of his life. Neither the comfort of staying in his town of birth, his age for he and Sara to have a child, nor killing the child of Promise altered his steadfastness in believing God. In a Christian life we will come to a place where we will have a choice to make, maybe once, maybe more than once. When we come to that place I would recommend that you side with God. It will make all the difference. Amen |
