Faith and the Will of God

Without faith it is impossible to please God

Heb11:6

Why is it that without faith you cannot please God?  It is because without faith you cannot perform the will of God and if you do not perform the will of God, you cannot please him.  The righteous shall live by faith (Rm1:17, Gal3:11, Heb10:38).  It is through faith in Christ that we are saved.  Our righteousness is through faith in Christ not in the works of the Law.  Abraham fulfilled the will of God, became heir of the world, the seed from which Christ became man, the Father of the Jewish people and the Father of all Gentiles who live by faith because he lived and acted by faith.  God told him to leave his homeland and his family and friends and he did.  God told him he was going to be the Father of many nations by having a son and he believed even in his old age.  God told him to offer his son on an altar and he did believing God could raise the dead even his beloved son.  Thus because Abraham acted in faith he received the blessing of the Spirit, a Promised Land, and a Promised child.  He is the Father of all who believe.

We must learn to live by faith.  We must learn the scripture because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.  We must learn to yield to the Holy Spirit because those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.  We must learn to obey the still small voice of God surrendering our will and our ways to Him because only by overcoming fear, peer pressure, and human logic can we live by faith and when we live by faith, we perform His will, and as we perform His will we please Him.

For Abraham there were three significant instances of living by faith.  Yet throughout his life Abraham lived a good life.  He was fair to Lot, prayed for Sodom and Gomorrah, respected the three visitors, and was valiant even in battle.  Jesus put it this way.  He who is faithful in little will be faithful in much.  Learn to live by faith with your money.  Learn to live by faith with your time.  Learn to live by faith in your activities.  If you do, you will be prepared for the few significant times God is calling you to live by faith because God has a particular big purpose that he needs for you to cooperate in so that His will may be accomplished.

Because Abraham lived by faith, not only was Abraham blessed, but God’s will was performed.  This means that if you don’t learn to live by faith, not only will God’s will be undermined, but you will lose the blessing because you did not please Him.

Faith is the path to God’s delight and his perfect will and the Blessing.
Amen
