Jesus was Son of Man and Son of God, human and divine. As Son of
God he knew everything as Son of Man, he learned as he went
along. When on the cross Jesus said “My God, My God why has thou
forsaken me?” He experienced something that he did not know was
going to take place: namely that “the blessing” the very anointing of
God would depart from him. As early as Peter’s confession of
faith and the Transfiguration Jesus knew he would go to the cross to
die for the sin of the world, but he did not know that the Father would
forsake him. The temptation of Christ was in all ways yet without
sin but when he took upon his body the sin of the world God had to
depart. Much like Adam being cast out of Eden, or Cain after he
slew Abel, or Esau when he sold his birthright for a bowl of porridge,
Jesus had to experience even this experience. It is good to
meditate on the life of Christ, for in it are jewels of precious gold
that testify to the love of God in Christ Jesus and how he suffered for
all of us. Amen. |
