Jesus is a lion in authority. He is a lion in healing. He is a lion in deliverance. He is a lion with respect to what he demands from those who wish to enter the kingdom. He is a lamb in sacrifice. He is a lamb in respect to the Father. He is a lamb with respect to his destiny to die on a cross for the salvation of the world. Unfortunately organized religion has it backwards. Jesus did not preach a lamb's theology. He did not say that all that was necessary to enter the kingdom was to be a good person. He did not say our works would merit our salvation. He did not say that it's okay to sin. His is a lion's gospel. The person who buries his talent, his money, and does not invest in the kingdom is cast into outer darkness. The person who refuses the marriage invitation by making excuse does not enter the marriage feast. Only the person who forsakes all, denies himself, and takes up his cross is his disciple. Jesus is not a lamb in his treatment or expectations of his followers. He is the Lion of Judah. He does not pacify his followers or water down the gospel. He leaves that to the religious who want attendance more than disciples who fear insulting their parishioners more than telling the truth. It is a grace from God to see Jesus as a lion with respect to what he teaches and expects of us and to see his humility with respect to the wishes of his Father. It is a grace to see Jesus as a lion with respect to sickness and possession and death and a lamb with respect to feeding those who left all behind and have not eaten for three days. It is a grace to work out your salvation with fear and trembling and to seek the Spirit and a personal relationship with the Father as Jesus himself had. So if some one tells you Jesus is a lamb and won't deny anyone heaven, don't be deceived. He is the great Lion of Judah and the great Lamb of God. Amen. |
