The most important reason that Jesus came to earth was that it was the
will of the Father. “For God so loved the world that he gave his
only begotten Son....” Yet Jesus came not only to save us from
hell but to equip us to live properly here on earth. When it
occurs in life that the dreams we had of happiness and success are not
realized, when sickness, poverty, or death of a loved one shatters our
dreams, when the consequences of sin rear its ugly head, it is then
that Jesus saves. It is when we despair of life itself and hear
the call of God that we know what it means to say, Jesus saves.
But to those who are successful in the world, to those that seem to get
the most out of life, to say that Jesus saves, brings about a jeer and
a sneer and almost mockery. Before Jesus is a teacher and a
guide, he must be a savior, and to be a savior we must know what it
means to be lost, despairing of life itself, shackled by sin and its
consequences. It was only when I was at the point of despair that
I appealed to Jesus for salvation. If you are unhappy and don't
know why, if you are looking for truth and it seems to allude you, if
the aspirations of life have gone to the wayside, then why not try
Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life and he can turn
your mourning into gladness and bring about a change in your life that
have eternal consequences. Discover for yourself what it means to
say, Jesus saves. Ask him into your heart. Amen. |
