Tarry ye here and watch.....couldest not thou watch one hour?
Mark:14:32,37

We are looking at the temptations and sufferings of Christ. Jesus is our mediator and our substitute.  He experienced death for us so that we would not have to experience death.  He took our sin that we might receive his righteousness.  In experiencing all our temptations he not only understands the human condition but he is also its remedy.  Here in this passage Jesus knows what it is to face death alone.  He has asked the disciples to watch with him and he is at least disappointed that they could not share his trial.  He knows what it is like to be ready spiritually and to have severe turmoil in his flesh.  He knows what it is like to seek comfort from others and for others to fail.  He knows and because he knows, he can be our help.

He faced death and dying.  He faced fear and abandonment.  He experienced cruel physical sufferings and he experienced the sin of the world.  With that in mind we can also face trials, tribulation, and sufferings knowing that we will not be tempted above what we are able to bear but that through our testings we will have compassion for others and provide the remedy  for any human malady, for that remedy is Christ.

Come to know the Savior.  Receive him into your heart.  Share in the sufferings of Christ that you might share in the resurrection.  Receive his Spirit, for he is our advocate and our Comforter.  Finally be ready to enter the kingdom of God for when you do, you will abide in God forever.  Know the Truth for in knowing it, it shall make you free.

Amen.
