Christ's Fullness

For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell
Col 1:19

We know from St. Paul's letter to the Philippians that Christ came out of the glory and took on the fashion as man and humbled himself enduring the cross and despising the shame.  It is because of the obedience of Christ that we will one day share eternal life with him.  We also know from Philippians that if we share in the sufferings of Christ we will also share in the resurrection.  God the Father never asks of us that if we obey, the reward will not be greater.  So it is with Christ.  It pleased the Father that in Christ all fulness would dwell.  What that means in part is that Jesus is Trinity.  Only Jesus has all the fulness of God, Father, Word, and Spirit, neither the Father and nor the Holy Spirit does.  The reward for Christ's obedience in becoming man and experiencing death for all of us is this fulness that Paul speaks of in Colossians.

Our reward for receiving the Word into our hearts and obeying his word and loving as he has loved us is also this fulness that Jesus has.  When we receive the Word we have the opportunity to receive the Father and the Spirit as well.  When this happens we become a Son of  God and we will be like him for we shall see him as he is.  When we are born again we receive the Son and whoever has the Son has life.  It is then our mission to receive the Holy Spirit and the Father.  We should not rest content with being born again.  We should not rest content with being born again and receiving the Holy Spirit.  Only as we partake of the fulness of Christ will God accomplish in us all that we were destined to accomplish.  Make that your only priority and you will please God.  Only in Christ does all fulness dwell.  Only in Christ.   Only in Christ.

Amen
