The entrance of
my word gives
light
It gives understanding to the simple. Ps119:130 Natural wisdom is often a hindrance to spiritual insight. Those who are conceptually intelligent often find it difficult to yield to the word of God and gain understanding of God’s ways. We must clear our minds of facts and definitions of dogma and rules to allow God to begin to give us insight into his wisdom and truth. Learning the scriptures, suspending judgment, and spending time with nature are good ways to open the understanding to God’s truth. In this passage the psalmist clearly suggests that revelation comes through the entrance of God’s word and you do not have to be smart to gain it. By stilling the soul, listening, and reading God’s word even the simple can become wise. So do not put yourself down if you are not worldly intelligent, if you do not have a degree, or you don’t have a particularly challenging job. The entrance of the word gives light. That is hope for the simple. Spend time in prayer. Spend time with the trees and birds and flowers. Spend time reading God’s word. Do not be hard on yourself or on others and God will begin to open the door of his understanding and truth. Simply by knowing God’s word and by obeying it even the simple becomes wise. It has taken me years to unlearn the wisdom of the world and to stop judging myself and putting myself down before I started to gain spiritual wisdom. Simply by meditation, prayer, fasting, reading God’s word and being obedient to the Spirit, God has given understanding to the simple. So do not lose heart. Be faithful in the little. Rise to the challenges that you face. Be strong and take heart and God will give you wisdom. He will give understanding to the simple. People like me and you. So don’t look to your natural giftedness or your intelligence. They may be a stumbling block. Look to God and be saved and the God of peace will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus and you will find that the entrance of the word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Amen |
