Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock. Matt 7:24
Jesus talks about the difference between building your house on a rock and building your house on sand. Those who do what He says are those who have a solid foundation when the storms of life come our way. Sandi was a case in point. People literally saw their homes swept away and the people ill prepared to withstand the calamity the storm made in their lives. It is not a question whether storms will come, but rather, whether we are prepared to handle the storms when they do come. Jesus claims that only those who put his words into practice will overcome the storms when they come. This parable comes at the end of the Sermon on the Mount so Jesus is keenly aware that people will hear the words but not do them. The letter of James says that we are to be doers of the word and not hearers only which is Jesus sentiment exactly. Begin to be a doer by applying the principles that are set forth in the word of God. Do not judge, be forgiving, be humble, consider the lilies, pray. There are many principles set forth in his sermon. If you begin to practice them it will demonstrate faith and faith pleases God. Secondly speak to the mountains of difficulty when they arise and cast them in the sea. As we exercise faith we will be victorious over all the obstacles of life that come our way. Thirdly, don't take in an evil report but believe that God has his eye on you like the sparrow. Fourthly, study the word to show yourself approved of God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. If you are not born again, confess your sin and ask Jesus into your heart. Finally if you are not baptized into the Holy Spirit ask God to do so. He gives the Spirit to those who ask for it. Have faith in God. The time to begin is now.Amen. |
