Take Nothing For Granted...

At 7:30 PM, this was the scene..

Soccer match at Houlihan Field

By 9:15 PM...

lightning hit telephone pole tree lands on car

and only by the Grace of God,  the driver is fine...

Miraculously, not hurt!

Driving home from the match shown above,
lightning struck as my son's car passed.
My wife and I were a few cars behind him when it happened.
All cars (many were his teammates leaving the game)
were driving quite slow due to the stormy conditions.

Somehow, the lightning hit a telephone pole and two trees.
A portion of a tree landed on the car, and broke through the windshield.
My son said it was about 8 inches from his face.

branch

The night of the accident we weren't able to get near the car because of the
LIVE electrical wire lying on the hood.
I wasn't aware of the branch.
My son didn't mention it initially.

branch branch

The following morning I went to the body shop (where the car was towed)
and asked to see the car.
I sat in the driver's seat and could not even move the branch. It broke through the windshield and passed through the seat into the floorboard of the car.

As I sat there, I saw that my thigh was about 2 inches from the branch's
entrypoint into the driver's seat.
When I took him to see it, he then remembered that the branch
bumped him in the shoulder as it came in.

A total of 10 inches separated him from two different
(head and thigh) serious injuries.

He has another soccer tournament this weekend,
and he will be playing.
I didn't realize how significant that was until this incident.

Never underestimate God's Power, as well as His Mercy and Grace.

Psalm 3:3
Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me, my glory and the One who lifts my head.

Isaiah 43:1-3
Fear not, for I am with you.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
